Printing
Brand identificaion and visual impact of tipping paper is becoming increasingly important as tobacco companies have less space to promote their brands on packs and POS. Traditional cork imitation paper is being replaced with printed logos and specialised designs in a wide variety of colours, both with inks and hotfoil. Benkert UK Ltd has a range of multi-colour printing presses to satisfy the increased complexity of designs of their customers. We convert highly specified lightweight papers from jumbo reels to bobbins. Our printing is subject to the most stringent quality controls with online inspection systems to ensure the highest quality printing.
Perforation
The control of tar and nicotine yields of a cigarette can be achieved by pre-perforating the tipping paper. There are two methods:
1) Electostatic (or Zone) perforation. The tipping paper web is perforated with electrostatic discharges which penetrate the paper. This randomly creates minute perforation holes, which cover a specified width (usually 2 - 6 mm). This is suitable for lower porosities (50CU - 500CU) and is not visible on the finished cigarette.
2) Laser perforation. Micro and Macro laser. Perforations are created by vaporizing paper with laser beams. This technology creates a regular distribution of holes in a defined number of perforation lines. The micro laser holes are smaller and are hardly visible. The macro laser holes are larger and are visible. Laser perforation is suitable for higher porosities (< 400CU).
Slitting
The development of registered multi-coloured designs have changed the demands for slitting accuracy when converting jumbo reels to bobbins. Major investments in slitting technology over the past two years have resulted in the development of some of the most efficient slitting facilities being used in the industry today.
Foil
Benkert UK Ltd pioneered the development of hot foil stamping of tipping paper. Bright metallic finishes/holograms/pigmented foils can enhance the appearance of the tipping paper in ways that are unachievable with normal printing inks.
In addition to one colour foiling, Benkert UK Ltd can:

- Register printed ink logos along with hotfoil
